Lab Analyst
Position Vacant: Laboratory Analyst
Function: Supply Chain
Location: Port Moresby
We have an immediate requirement for a Laboratory Analyst in our Port Moresby Brewery, reporting to the Quality Control Manager in Port Moresby.
Main duties include:
- Carrying out sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing results to ensure compliance to set quality specifications.
- Providing all other required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively, particularly performing maintenance functions and completing non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of the QUALITY CONTROL Manager or designated.
- Performing all designated laboratory analyses (Analytical, Microbiological, and Sensory related), including sampling, sample preparation, and reporting of results in line with valid Laboratory Methods and LABORATORY STAR SYSTEMS procedures.
- Conducting quality checks according to Laboratory Star System (LABORATORY STAR SYSTEMS) and approved sampling and analysis procedures.
- Providing validated and reliable results to Production for informed decision-making.
- Performing daily validation using FIRST LINE CONTROL/REFERENCE BEER samples; plot Shewhart charts, take corrective actions on deviations, and document results with remarks.
- Preparing required chemical solutions for both laboratory and production analyses.
- Carrying out non-routine analyses as needed, especially in response to quality issues.
- Ensuring the packaging process runs efficiently and effectively according to the production plan, both under standard and non-standard conditions.
- Managing material replenishment and maintaining accurate shift documentation, including downtime and handover notes.
- Executing simple maintenance, calibration, and verification of laboratory and production analysis equipment.
- Performing scheduled maintenance and calibration, recording all activities in the relevant logbooks.
- Ensuring laboratory instruments and equipment are kept clean and operational at all times.
- Monitoring and tracking availability of laboratory materials, consumables, and chemicals.
- Maintaining the Certificate of Analysis (CERTIFICATE OF ANALYSIS)/Certificate of Compliance (CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMANCE) management system for equipment, chemicals, and production materials assuring proper receipt, control, acceptance, and record-keeping.
- Filing records appropriately in the Archive room, maintaining its organization and cleanliness.
- Providing timely and reliable feedback to relevant departments on product quality or raw material issues.
- Being trained and competent across all laboratory benches (including Packaging Mini-Lab and Microbiology Lab. This includes basic maintenance and calibration).
- Performing assigned tasks across different laboratory functions as needed.
- Providing general procedural and technical training to laboratory staff, trainees, and other employees as required
- Actively participating in improvement teams and support the implementation of improvement initiatives or corrective actions (ISO9001, LABORATORY STAR SYSTEMS, TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MANAGEMENT, etc.).
- Assisting in LABORATORY STAR SYSTEMS audits and follow up on improvement opportunities identified.
- Continuously updating work instructions/procedures based on historical trends or process changes, with approval from QUALITY CONTROLM.
- Communication of updated procedures to relevant stakeholders and provide training when necessary.
- Contributing to the Quality System programmed including ISO, HACCP, Lab Star, Hygiene, and TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MANAGEMENT.
- Application of 5S/6S and Hygiene Standards, good housekeeping practices, and basic HACCP principles in the workplace.
- Ensuring a clean, tidy, and safe working area, Optimize use of consumables and chemicals.
- Fully Comply to all Laboratory and Company policies, including specifically LABORATORY STAR SYSTEMS Requirements, Food Safety and Quality Policy, Personal Hygiene Policy, Life Saving Commitments/ General Safety and Contractor Safety Standards.
- Participating in safety and hygiene audits and actively contribute to audit readiness. Support and or Participate in all assigned compliance and sustainability initiatives such as audits, self- assessments, and improvements to support Safety, Food Safety, Quality Control/ LABORATORY STAR SYSTEMS, Water, Energy and Waste Management.
Qualification and Experience:
- Must have knowledge of Laboratory/ Quality Systems, (ISO 17025/ ISO 9001 would be bonus), Good Manufacturing Practices, Basic Food Safety System and Total Productive Management.
- Must have a Diploma in Applied Science (with a minimum of 3 years’ experience).
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in applied science/science (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Technology-1-2 years’ experience).
- At least have 2 - 3 years laboratory work experience or Food Production area. Preferably Experience in Quality Systems Implementation, Maintenance and Execution of Audits. E.g.: ISO, LMS, HACCP, GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICES, etc.…
- Candidate must be well Organized and self-directed, can work with minimum supervision or without supervision. Positive Attitude and commitment to self-improvement.
- Candidates must understand work related priorities and can deal with problems independently.
- Must be able to critically analyze Quality Control Process’s for continuous improvement. Pays full attention and takes care in the execution of required task.
- Is neat and tidy in his/her habits.
- Can complete the job promptly and produce work of Desired Quality.
- Has good time management skills and is able to accept additional work/responsibilities.
