With 2,100 colleagues, a nationwide pub network and a portfolio of brilliant brands proudly made in the UK, we combine pioneering spirit with real scale. We’re also a certified Great Place to Work®, a recognition of the culture and colleague experience we build every day.
We're looking for a Finance Senior Analyst to join our Strategic Finance team, based in either Edinburgh or London. You'll work across a range of our support functions, helping colleagues understand their financial performance, plan ahead and make informed business decisions.
It's a varied role where you'll get involved in everything from month-end reporting and forecasting to personnel cost planning and improving how we work. You'll build relationships across the business, work with a range of stakeholders and get a good understanding of how Finance supports the wider operation.
About the role
You'll support several of our central functions, including Facilities, Finance, HR, Legal, Corporate Affairs and Digital & Technology. Working closely with colleagues across these teams, you'll provide financial information, analysis and insight to help them manage their budgets and understand the impact of their decisions.
A big part of the role will involve keeping on top of monthly performance, supporting forward financial planning and helping ensure our reporting and controls are accurate and reliable. You'll also play an important part in personnel cost forecasting, working with HR and Finance to bring together the different elements that make up our people costs.
If you enjoy getting into the detail, working with people and finding better ways of doing things, there's plenty to get your teeth into.
You'll be based at either our Edinburgh head office in St Andrew Square or our London office just off Oxford Street. We operate a hybrid working model, with three days in the office (Tuesdays, Thursdays and one flexible day) and the option to come in more often if you prefer.
So what will you be doing? Here’s some of the key accountabilities.
- Managing the month-end close for your areas, making sure costs are accurately recorded and providing clear commentary on financial performance.
- Sharing financial results and explaining key cost drivers, helping stakeholders understand variances and build robust forecasts.
- Supporting annual planning and regular forecasting cycles, providing accurate and timely financial information to help teams plan ahead.
- Managing personnel cost forecasting in partnership with HR and Finance, covering headcount, salaries, pensions, employer NIC, bonuses and other people costs.
- Working with stakeholders to monitor their cost base, highlight emerging risks and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
- Coordinating intercompany recharges and invoicing for short-term assignments and other cross-OpCo arrangements, working closely with HR and HBS.
- Providing ad hoc analysis, audit support and finance guidance, while looking for ways to simplify processes, improve reporting and make better use of automation.
Who We're Looking For
You'll be a technically capable and analytical finance professional who enjoys working with numbers but understands the importance of the people behind them.
You'll be comfortable getting into the detail of financial information, spotting trends and explaining what the numbers are telling us. Just as importantly, you'll be confident building relationships with stakeholders across different teams and communicating financial information in a clear, straightforward way.
You'll ideally be a qualified accountant or working towards a recognised accounting qualification, with experience across financial reporting, month-end processes and forecasting.
We're also looking for someone who's proactive, well organised and comfortable challenging how things are done. You'll need to manage competing deadlines, balance regular reporting with ad hoc requests and look for ways to make processes work better.
Skills and experience
- Qualified accountant or working towards a recognised accounting qualification.
- Experience of month-end reporting, financial control and forecasting.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and explain key findings.
- Confident communicator, comfortable working with stakeholders who may not have a finance background.
- Good organisation and time management, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- An interest in process improvement, automation and finding more efficient ways of working.
Behaviours
We value behaviours as much as technical expertise. You'll be able to demonstrate how you:
- Work collaboratively: Build effective relationships across Finance, HR and the wider business.
- Make a difference: Take ownership of your work and look for ways to improve processes and reporting
- Think commercially: Understand the wider business impact of financial decisions and turn analysis into useful insight.
- Get things done: Stay organised, manage deadlines and take a proactive approach to resolving issues.
